Garden for beginners
How to grow healthy greens easily and quickly at home? The advice of the seller-consultant of the OBI hypermarket Alexander Maltsev on creating a garden on the windowsill for beginners.
What to plant in the garden: tips for beginners
Not all greens are easy to grow on the windowsill or on the balcony. For example, dill, parsley, and basil require a lot of light, rise and ripen for a long time, so it is better to plant them on the beds. Watercress, leaf mustard, any leaf salad, coriander (cilantro) and onion sets grow at home. What is planted in May in the country.
How to start a garden
1. Prepare the soil and the container: as the main soil you can buy land on the basis of vermicompost, and add expanded clay to the soil. Do not lay it on the bottom of the container, as is customary, but rather soak expanded clay in water for a day and mix with the ground. It will draw excess moisture, and if necessary, give it away. You can put birch coals at the bottom of the container, and add vermiculite, a mineral in the soil, which makes the soil more loose and normalizes its moisture.
2. Plant the seeds to a depth of about 0.5 cm and cover them with soil. The frequency of sowing in our case is not very important, so you can sprinkle the seeds, as it turns out. It is better to plant the onion set often, leaving a distance of 1 cm. It will give amicable shoots and it will be more convenient to break the arrows.
3. To help plants ascend, cover them with foil and ventilate daily, removing accumulated condensate. After the seeds sprout, the film can be removed.
4. Watering plants is necessary only as the earth dries, because the legs of the seedlings can turn black from overflow. For watering, you need a watering can with a very small divider or a medical syringe. You can also water gentle seedlings from the corner of the container: “with a rush of water.”
If you did everything right, watercress should rise on the 3rd day, onions on the 5th. And after 10-12 days you can already collect the first crop from the garden for beginners!
